So... Joe commented on yesterday's post that he hadn't seen a picture of the fireplace and the inside of the chimney. And I don't know if I've ever posted one. You should know by now that I'm waaaaay too lazy to go back and look, but I did notice that there are a couple in my Flikr stream. The inside of the chimney is not yet faced (stay tuned, however, my intrepid log-lovers!), and is currently totally hidden by a mass of construction materials, including some gazillion-foot-long boards that The Husband milled himself. So, taking a photo right now is not going to help the situation. Instead, I send you over to espy the photos in Flikr. Be gone with you!

In Which Anne is Useful
Hurrah! I made myself useful up at The Log House yesterday! Let's be frank: there's not much I can do to be helpful, except sweep up sawdust and make proclamations. So when The Hubs gives me a job I can actually accomplish, it's momentous.
Said Husband had to go un-stick the snowmobile from the sugarbush, where it had gotten mired in the deep and softening snow, and set me up with some polyurethane in the dining room. Never having polyurethaned anything before, I am pretty pleased with the fact that I didn't even screw it up a little. Because, to be honest, it was a distinct possibility.
During:
After:
I think it warms up that wainscoting nicely, eh?
Let's just step around the corner and see what we can see...
I am so inordinately happy about this, I feel a bit shy to admit the amount of squealing that took place. This is the main floor bathroom, the one directly across from the guest bedroom. So it will be convenient for you when you visit. You ARE coming to visit, aren't you?
So much progress! And for once, I actually contributed more than squeals of delight. Aw, yeah.

Well, hellooooo lovely lights! Fancy meeting you here!
You know -- even though I know that we have so much work left to do before we move into The Log House, it's finish details like these lights that just make my day. It makes it feel that much closer to reality.
Here's something else The Nonchalant Husband demonstrated -- as an afterthought -- yesterday:

Sunday Post
Hymns are balm to my soul. Poetry and music joined. It's been a long time (like 4 years!) since I've made a "Sunday Post." No reason, other than my usual laziness, I guess. This one we sang this week in church woven into a contemporary praise chorus, and since I couldn't remember the rest of the original hymn, I looked it up. Good stuff. I wish I could always remember more than a phrase or two of a good hymn. This one would come in handy while standing on the dock at dawn or twilight, looking out over a placid Lake -- or standing in the silent woods with a clear night sky above.
I was surprised at the attribution. I think we tend to remember one dimension of famous people and forget that they were real, multifaceted human beings.
All Creatures of Our God and King
1. All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
Alleluia, alleluia.
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
2. ..... Thou rising morn in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
O praise Him! O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
3. Thou flowing water, pure and clear,
Make music for thy Lord to hear,
Alleluia, alleluia. .....
St. Francis of Assisi, 1225

Time to move in!
What more does a girl need in her log home?
What's that you say? A door on the bathroom? *sigh* Perhaps. Okay, we'll wait on the move-in a bit longer. But I'm going to microwave the heck out of something soon. Just you watch me.

Oh, March. March, March, March.
*Sigh* March, why do you do this to us?
Just when we thought we were about to tap the maple trees....
12-18" of snow in 24 hours.
The good news? The in-laws arrived back from Florida just before the snowstorm hit. Welcome back, Mom and Dad! Here's a shovel. Sorry.
Guess we're "At SNOW in Logs" now. STILL. Ay-yiyi what a winter.
